A high quality field of fourteen lines up to contest South Africa’s most prestigious mile contest, the R1 million Gr1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate at Kenilworth on Saturday 11 January 2014. This will be the 153rd renewal of a race that has produced countless champions over the years.

Cape trainer Joey Ramsden has thrown down the gauntlet and included the highly regarded Western Winter colt Red Ray.

The presence of Ingrid and Markus Jooste’s 3yo adds a dimension of interest and needle and his duel with  J&B Met ante post favourite, Jackson, and distinguished milers Whiteline Fever, Cape Town Noir and Royal Zulu Warrior, could produce a memorable finish.

The visitors include the 2013 Sansui Summer Cup winner Yorker from the Geoff Woodruff yard, as well as the KZN based Corredor who will be ridden by Andrew Fortune and will run out of the Glen Puller yard.

A notable exception from the lineup is a runner representing SA Champion trainer Mike De Kock, while Dennis Drier has opted to run the exciting Master Of My Fate in the Gr3 Peninsula Handicap on the day.

Patrons are reminded that the 12 race card offers a Pick 6 carryover of R2 million rand and an estimated  grand pool of R4.5 million plus is expected.

The first race is set to jump at  11 55am and entrance to Kenilworth racecourse opens at 11am.
