Improper Conduct – Trainer Fined

Has right of appeal against finding and penalty

The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an inquiry which was held at its offices at the Flamingo Park Racecourse on 26 March 2018, Trainer Sarel Von Willingh Smit was charged with a contravention of Rule 72.1.25, in that he conducted himself in an improper manner at the Flamingo Park Racecourse on 14 November 2017.

Trainer Smit pleaded not guilty to the charge but was found guilty of the charge.

The Inquiry Board, after hearing all the evidence, considering Mr Smit’s record and all other factors presented in mitigation, ruled that Trainer Smit be fined the sum of R5000, which is wholly suspended for a period of twelve months provided that he is not found guilty of a contravention of this Rule during this period.

Trainer Smit has the Right of Appeal against both the finding and the penalty imposed.
