Positive – Harold Crawford Fined

Mr Crawford pleaded guilty to and was found guilty of the charge

The National Horseracing Authority confirms that an Inquiry was held at its Regional Office at Kenilworth Racecourse, Cape Town, on 18 March 2016.

National Horseracing AuthorityTrainer H W J  Crawford was charged with a contravention of Rule 73.2.3 in that he was the trainer of the horse BIRD OF WAR when a blood sample taken from this horse prior to the running of the 4th race at Kenilworth Racecourse on 28 October 2015, disclosed upon analysis the presence of Salicylic Acid, a prohibited substance (classified as a class 4 substance in terms of the Guidelines) in terms of the Rules of The National Horseracing Authority.

Mr Crawford pleaded guilty to and was found guilty of the charge.

After considering all the evidence placed before it, the Inquiry Board imposed a penalty of a fine of R20 000.00 of which R10 000.00 is suspended for a period of 3 years on condition that Mr Crawford is not found guilty of a breach of any rule relating to prohibited substances during that period.
