Ready Steady Go!

R2-million Ready to Run Sale Initiative for the Cape

The  Franschoek mountains were bedecked in snow  the day Cape Thoroughbred Sales announced the dates for the 2012/13 sale season.

Chris van Niekerk introduced the initiatives and plans for  the now established Cape Premier Yearling Sale – Book 1 & 2 and the newly planned Ready To Run Sale carrying a R2-million incentive and a Mauritius based Elite Sale.
The Cape Premier Yearling Sale – Book 1, will again take place in the Cape Town International Convention Centre 24 and 25 January 2013. Originally planned to fall in the week leading up to the J&B Met, the events will be somewhat different as the Cape’s premier race has been resheduled for the 2 February. CPYS has established itself as a unique sale where South African breeders showcase the best of their crop. It’s an opportunity to show off our country, our standards and introduce fun and excitement to the sales season with a range of lifestyle events leading up to the sale.

The highest grossing sale of 2012 the Cape Premier – Book 1 is a select sale in which 21 millionaires where sold this year and the average was R401,000. The first CPYS graduates already include 3 of the 4 Gr1 winning juvenile colts of the season including the Equus Champion 2 year old, Soft Falling Rain owned by Sheikh Hamden Al Maktoum, the Golden Horseshoe Gr1 winner War Horse and the Champion Juvenile Stakes Gr1 winner The Hangman.

The CPYS – Book 2 sale which last year grossed R24million and averaged R83,000 has moved back 3 weeks to accommodate later maturing individuals and the sale will now take place on the Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th March 2013 at the New Durbanville Sales Centre. This is a non-racing weekend in Cape Town.
