‘Dollar Talks’ As More Hit High Road

Sixteen enter quarantine on Monday

Along Came Polly wins the Gr1 Thekwini Stakes at Greyville 13-07-27

Multiple Gr1 winner Along Came Polly is lost to SA racing

The Gavin van Zyl-trained dual Gr 1 winner Along Came Polly is one of 16 horses confirmed to enter quarantine on Monday, although she will be the only one among them who will not be bound for Mike de Kock’s operation in Dubai and instead will be going to the famous Three Chimneys Farm breeding establishment in the USA.

There could well be more top horses joining the 16, but the decisions on their futures will be made after Saturday’s big race meeting at Clairwood.

The horses confirmed for quarantine are Along Came Polly, Via Africa, Red Ray, Contador, Whistle Stop, Rock Cocktail, Pylon, Umgiyo, Captain Lars, Atomic Rush, Alareef and the two-year-olds Banadeer, Forries Waltz, Mastermind, Shahrasal and Ad Idem.

Three Chimneys Farm in Midway, Kentucky was established in 1972 by Mr & Mrs Robert N. Clay and is widely known as one of the world’s preeminent horse farms.

It has been home to a number of famous horses including U.S. Triple Crown champion Seattle Slew.

The three-year-old Judpot filly Along Came Polly, bred by Varsfontein Stud, was owned by Brian Burnard and under Van Zyl’s guidance won the Gr 1 Thekwini Stakes last year as a two-year-old and the Gr 1 Laurie Jaffee Empress Club Stakes this year, both over 1600m, at Greyville and Turffontein respectively.

Van Zyl said, “It is sad to lose the blood to South Africa, but the dollar talks.”
