Sea Cottage and Gatecrasher Clock The Gallop

In the name of loving the sport of kings

The recently launched Clocking the Gallop YouTube Channel has announced that their popular series, The Vodacom Durban July – All Time Greats, has concluded.

As such the channel has made public the Official Race-Result of both the Durban July All Time Greats Fantasy Race and the Consolation Fantasy Race contested by some great horses who ran in the July but never won the race.

The 13 part series, all episodes of which can still be viewed on the channel, proved hugely popular and has already amassed a total of 7 800 views.

The final two shows, each featuring a “must listen to” race-call from ‘Eagle-Eye’ Craig Peters, have alone attracted over 2000 views and they continue to receive daily traction.

The result of both Fantasy Races was derived from public votes via email and Twitter as well as the voting contributions of the South African Racing Media.

Despite the Handicapping panel setting Sea Cottage the seemingly impossible task of shouldering a top weight of 60kg, and therefore giving great July winners such as Flaming Rock, London News & Illustrador 7 kg, Syd Laird’s Champion racehorse confirmed his larger than life legendary status and secured over a third of all votes submitted.

Chasing him home with 25.4% of the vote was the mighty Dynasty with Colorado King and In Full Flight finishing 3 rd and 4 th gaining 21.6% and 21.2% respectively.

They were then followed by Igugu, Flaming Rock, Ipi Tombe, Pocket Power and Politician.

  • 9 Dynasty 53.5kg
  • 11 Colorado King 53kg

In truth, in voting terms, this proved a one-horse race with Gatecrasher receiving almost double the amount of votes than any other runner. An incredibly popular winner.

In a bunched finish for minor money, Lenin was voted 2nd , just in front of Empress Club, Elevation, Model Man, Olympic Duel, Pas de Qui and William Penn.

Race-Result.

  • 19 Gatecrasher 53kg
  • 17 Lenin 57kg
  • 12 Empress Club 59kg
  • 1 Elevation 60kg

Clocking the Gallop would like to thank the public for the remarkable support they showed for the channel’s first ever YouTube project and promise to keep delivering quality content to promote the sport of horse racing.
