Drakenstein Stud showcases a highly attractive draft of ten youngsters from a spread of reputable stallions at the Cape Racing Sales CPYS 2024, today at the Cape Town International Convention Centre.

Resident Stallion What a Winter accounts for three yearlings, and Futura has two going to market. Gimmethegreenlight, Querari, Fire Away, and Erik the Red and Gold Standard have single representatives.
Lot 17 will create a buzz being by champion sire Gimmethegreenlight out of Gabor, the Champion two-year-old filly in SA in 2018/19. This bay colt, Malmesbury Missile, can be viewed in stable D3.
What a Winter Champion Sprinter in his prime and sire of 24 stakes winners are responsible for Lots 97, 116 and 127. The last mentioned, a first foal, is imbued with loads of speed – Casino King’s dam, Casino Queen was a sharp sprinter.
Lot 116 is also a first foal. The dam, Aspen Colorado, is a half-sister to Silver Darling, winner of the Gr1 Woolavington. This intriguing pedigree combines noted stallion speed influence with stamina on the female side. The third dam, Bella Bianca, was the Champion Older Female Stayer in the late 90s.
Lot 97, Baccarat is out of Trip Poker (three-quarter sister to Gold Poker Game, who won the Lady’s Bracelet on Friday at Fairview) and thus a full sister to Coldhardstare, who has been sprinting successfully on the Highveld and is now Black Type-placed.
Futura, a son of Dynasty, is making an impact with progeny going a longer route. He offers Lots 45 and 72, out of Merysagos (who also won the Lady’s Bracelet) and the unraced Sempre Libre, respectively. The latter’s second dam is Mystic Spring, a remarkable producer of 11 individual winners, all loaded with Black Type.
Stayer, Silver Stripe, a Silvano mare, has been put to first-season sire Erik the Red, a speedball. The resultant progeny is a bay colt, Vapour Trail, Lot 82.
Hold My Hand won the Gr3 Summer Fling Stakes over the weekend to still raise Gold Standard’s profile. The sire has a chestnut colt on offer – Gold Giboski cited as Lot 19. The second dam, Hosta, is a venerable Drakenstein line producer, as she’s thrown top-class performers, Lanner Falcon, Silver Host and Golden Hostess.
Drakenstein Stud has advanced up the Breeders Log to top the SA rankings in the past two seasons. Their yearlings are always impeccably turned out, well received by discerning buyers and, most often, backed up by tremendous results on the racecourse.
